Our appearance at Market Day in downtown Waynesboro (Oct 4) gave us much "face time" with the crowds - at first, a cloudy, damp and chilly start but later sunshine and clear skies increased foot traffic. Indeed, the giant map drew many over to explore, then chat w/ Curt and Tawnya Finney, Chris Firme or myself.
We heard stories of people's experiences on different parts of the trail but also many expressed interest in hiking but hadn't yet begun. Over 25 people signed the "hiking information sheet" that Tawnya provides; she then adds their info to our Waynesboro AT Community gmail list for monthly updates on our Second Saturday hikes.
We started setting up at 7 a.m. and finished after 4 p.m. - all in all a great day! We'll plan to do it next year! We provided many with ATC/PATC membership brochures, maps of Michaux and Smokey The Bear sheets for the kids (both from Michaux office), ATC tattoos, displayed the hikers' guidebooks, photos of trail care work, and shared the PATC hiking map of the area (with info how they can procure their own copy).
